“This urge to overachieve, even in times of global crisis, is reflective of America’s always-on work culture.”
Many of us now have MORE work because we are managing multiple schedules, home-schooling, working without childcare. We are busier now than ever before.
And, let’s not forget about the emotional impact of grief. I have yet to talk to someone (personally or professionally) who isn’t anxious about what’s going on now and/or what the long-term effects of the pandemic will be.
So, let go of the illusion that you should be reading 2 books/day, meditating, exercising 2x/day, cooking gourmet meals, and learning a new language. This is not the time to over-achieve. If you’re getting through the day, your children are alive and fed, you are doing great. It’s more important to get good sleep, breathe in some fresh air, and love each other well. The bathroom remodel can wait.
