If you spend any time on social media, you have likely seen the #10yearchallenge, where users post a picture of themselves 10 years ago adjacent to a current photo. This whole challenge is striking on several levels. I’ve seen the range of photo captions- from “I age like a fine wine” to “I’m just older, fatter, and more stressed.”
Why do we think our bodies will not age and change? Of course they will, and despite all of your (un)healthy habits, genetics are still at play. What do you know now that you didn’t 10 years ago? How have you grown in kindness, generosity, compassion?
Also, didn’t we live through a pandemic? Oh, right, we’re still living through it? Have you considered the amount of stress your mind and body has endured in the last 2 years?
Post your pictures if it brings you joy, but above all, be kind to yourself.
